This is an internal scientific program exclusively employees of HORIBA Medical. It covers the basics of Hematology, Hemostasis and Clinical Chemistry. In addition, it also covers Grooming, Body Language and Soft skills.

  • Red Blood Cells

  • Introduction to Anemias


  • Acquired anemias: Iron Deficiency, Vitamin B-12, Folate, Pernicious, Aplastic


  • Inherited Anemias: Sickle cell, Thalassemia & G6PD


  • Hemoglobin formation, breakdown, estimation, indices


  • Hemoglobin with respect to HBa1C


  • Electrophoretic patterns and Hemoglobin variants


  • Anemia markers and their significance, viz. Vitamin B-12, Folate, Ferritin, RBC Indices


  • Terminologies while describing the anemias, such as Hypochromasia, Microcytes, Macrocytes & Poikilocytes


  • Formation of the five types of WBCs viz: Neutrophil, Eosinophil, Basophil, Lymphocyte & Monocyte


  • Significance of Leucocytosis, leucopenia, leukemia, FAB classification


  • SLE, Infectious Mononucleosis and their significance


  • Formation of Platelets


  • Function of Platelets, such as Adhesion, Aggregation, and Clot Formation & Clot retraction


  • Bernard Soulier, Glanzmann’s Thrombasthenia, & Von Willerbrand disease


  • All 13 coagulation factors with their function, Intrinsic & Extrinsic Cascades, Significance of Prothrombin Time, APTT and PT-INR


  • Breakdown products: FDP,D-dimer, etc., and their significance in Covid-19


  • Understanding the graphics (histogram and scattergrams) generated by automated hematology analysers.


  • The three metabolism, viz. Carbohydrate, Lipids & Proteins


  • Biochemistry of Glucose in Diabetes


  • Proteins in various diseases, with reference to electrophoresis


  • Lipids in relation to coronary heart disease and high blood pressure


  • Liver function tests, viz. AST, ALT, Alkaline Phosphatase, Gamma GT


  • Renal function tests, viz. significance of urea in kidney failure


  • Cardiac Function tests, viz: hs-Trop-T, Pro-BNP, NT-ProBNP, CPK, and Myoglobin and their relation to Chronic Heart disease, Myocardial Infarction and Left ventricular failure.


  • Bone Markers and Vitamin D


  • Thyroid Hormones


  • Reproductive Hormones
